Self-care Ideas for Busy Women

Self-care is an essential part of life for everyone. As we get older, it's harder to take some time out and do the things we know we should be doing. It can be hard to find the time to care for ourselves and all we have on our plates. And with so many responsibilities, sometimes it's difficult to see how anything else can fit in.

What is self-care?

Self-care is the intentional nurturing of our mind, emotions, body, and spirit. It can be anything from taking a bubble bath to meditating for twenty minutes to buying a comfy-yet-chic sweater. The point of self-care is to provide ourselves with what we need to refuel when life gets hectic.

Practical tips for self-care

Self-care is an essential part of good mental health. We all need to take care of ourselves to maintain good physical and emotional health. But when life gets busy, it can be challenging to make time for self-care activities–especially when kids, your spouse, coworkers, and friends need you! With that in mind, here are five practical tips for taking better care of yourself when you don't have time:

Self-Care Ideas for Busy Women

  • Journal for 10 minutes

Journaling doesn't have to be complicated. There's no format. It's all about what makes you happy and fills your cup! If you need some inspiration, we put together a few prompts for you to get started.

  • Get Sunshine

There's a good reason that so many catchy pop songs talk about sunshine. The sun's rays have been found to lift your mood, give you a sleep better night's sleep, and help your body make Vitamin D. Take a short walk outdoors or simply sit by yourself outside and soak up the sun (but don't forget your sunscreen!)

  • Put On Your Favorite Song

Girl, put your records on! Music is a powerful way to shift your mood and fill your cup. Create a playlist on your favorite app with songs that make you feel good and play it while you're packing lunches or preparing for your workday.

  • Organize Your Life

This tip isn't about Marie Kondo-ing your world, but instead taking one part of your life that may feel a little chaotic and whipping it into shape. For instance, you know that junk drawer in your kitchen (we ALL have a junk drawer)? A quick clean-out and organization can help you feel more in control of your life–and that's caring for your mental health!

  • Have An At Home Spa Day

Sometimes it really is the simple things that can make you feel refreshed and recharged.  Schedule an hour out of your day and try these simple, at home spa treatments.  A new color of nail polish and a fresh pedicure, a deep conditioning treatment for your hair, and a hydrating facemask.  During the month of "Self-Care September" we have partnered with some amazing businesses; Osmia Organics and Arbor Hair Studio, to get you started on your at home spa day.

  • Buy Something Comfy

Young kids have loveys, teens have their favorite hoodies, and you should have something comfy, too! Choose an item that makes you feel good and look even better. The best items are versatile, like a pair of joggers, perfect for hitting the grocery store, a ball game, or the couch!

Conclusion

Self-care is an important topic. We all need to do things for ourselves, yet it can be hard to find the time and energy. Remember, self-care doesn't have to be expensive or time-consuming to lift your spirits. The smallest things can make a huge difference.
